Volatility
How options are priced right now, compared with their own past and with how much the price has actually been moving.
How to read this pageShow
- Implied volatility (IV)
- The yearly volatility that today's option prices imply. Higher IV means options cost more.
- IV rank and percentile
- Where today's IV sits against the past year. Rank uses the year's lowest and highest values; percentile counts the days below today.
- Historical volatility (HV)
- How much the price really moved over the last 20 sessions, on the same yearly scale as IV.
- IV − HV
- The gap between what options imply and what the price has done lately.
- Skew
- Whether out-of-the-money puts are priced richer (above zero) or cheaper (below zero) than calls.
- Implied move
- The size of move the option market is pricing to expiry. It says nothing about direction and is not a forecast.
These numbers describe what has happened or what is priced right now. They are not forecasts or suggestions.
